Morning Adventure in Sintra: A Journey Through Time and Beauty!
Imagine visiting Lisbon and not seeing the iconic Pena Palace, it's like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower! That's why our day begins bright and early at 8:00 AM, ensuring we're among the first to experience the breathtaking Pena Palace perched atop the mountain, alongside the majestic Moorish Castle.
Our adventure kicks off at a stunning viewpoint of Saint Eufemia, where you'll immerse yourself in the lush forest and get your bearings in this enchanted landscape. From here, you'll see how Sintra, Lisbon, Cascais, and Mafra are connected, giving you a true sense of the region's geography. And, of course, this is the perfect spot to snap some incredible photos!
As we ascend the mountain, we'll delve into the fascinating history that shaped Sintra into the magical place it is today. We'll stop by the National Palace, the oldest in Portugal, with a history even older than the country itself! Then, we'll make a stop at the fairytale-like Biester Palace, where the story behind its enchanting and tragic, the architecture will captivate you, real fairytale like. On our way to the top of the mountain we will check upon de amazing Pena Palace and the stunning Moorish castle closely.
This tour isn't just about seeing the sights, it's about understanding them, that are a lot of palaces and monuments in Sintra but the reason why that happens is fascinating, all while enjoying a relaxing, fun filled day crafted with love by Sintra locals.
This is also the perfect moment to take the moment to visit inside, we believe that you don't need to go inside to have an excelente day understanding what makes this mountain so special, the Pena Palace (10€ park ticket and 20€ ticket to the interior) or the Moorish Castle (12€ ticket), we can get the tickets for you in advance so that you don't have to wait on the ticket line (tickets are not included in the price).
After reaching the mountain's peak, we'll descend into the heart of Sintra's charming city center, where the National Palace proudly stands, where we will get a chance to see the views from the bottom of the mountain a long side with a private visit to the National Palace Gardens. Here, you'll step back in time as you stroll through the medieval village, with its quaint cobblestone streets and century-old shops.
A highlight of this visit will be a stop at the iconic Piriquita bakery, renowned for its traditional Sintra pastries. You'll have the delightful opportunity to savor the famous Queijada and Travesseiro, local treats that are as rich in flavor as they are in history. Our treat to you!
After soaking in several more viewpoints and their unique perspectives, we'll journey to the other side of the mountain to explore the mystical Quinta da Regaleira, the elegant Seteais Palace, and the serene Monserrate Palace, complete with its lily pad-covered lagoon and waterfall. Along the way, we'll uncover hidden gems that will make your day even more special.
After our morning exploration, we'll take a moment to enjoy authentic Portuguese culinary restaurant in Sintra, where you will enjoy a delicious meal that is one of the best meals you will ever have!
Afternoon Coastal Adventure!
With your belly happily full from our morning delights, we'll embark on a relaxed afternoon journey along Sintra's stunning coastline, shaped by the sea over thousands of years. Our scenic route will take us through the colorful cliffs, starting in the charming beach of Magoito, moving through the picturesque Aguda, and arriving at Azenhas do Mar, a cliffside gem often referred to as the "Portuguese Santorini." Here, you can marvel at the breathtaking views and dip into a delightful natural pool, perfect for a refreshing swim on a hot summer day.
Next, we'll head to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe, where the land ends and the Atlantic Ocean begins. This historic spot has long been a launching point for explorers and adventurers, and its dramatic cliffs offer a mesmerizing vista.
On our way, we'll stop at Praia das Maçãs, home to Portugal's first archaeological site, preserved since the 16th century. We'll explore this ancient site and uncover its connection to the Sintra mountain and its palaces. This is where everything gets aligned.
Continuing, we'll visit the lively beach town of Praia Grande, where you'll experience the essence of Portuguese coastal life, surfing, enjoying cocktails, and soaking up the local atmosphere.
We'll also see the renowned Boca do Inferno ("Mouth of Hell"), a dramatic sea-carved cavern with fascinating religious lore and a popular diving spot.
Our tour concludes in the vibrant town of Cascais, where hidden gems await. Discover a beautiful beach nestled by a palace, explore the historic Cascais Fortress, and enjoy the lively marina. Cascais offers a perfect spot to relax and enjoy dinner or head back to your accommodation, savoring the day's adventures.
